The new computing curriculum places a strong emphasis on providing pupils with the knowledge, skills and understanding that equips them to be at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in the digital world. Communication and literacy skills are crucial in order for our learners to thrive and grow. We are all learning Makaton, a sign and communication language, which provides another means of communicating with each other. The Literacy curriculum at Norbury encompasses the core skills of speaking and listening, reading and writing. The curriculum is rich and vibrant.
Learners are immersed in challenging books, and through careful planning and a variety of activities their skills are developed and secured. Our children learn and develop their reading and writing skills through a progression of key skills. These skills are explored through engaging activities, such as drama, sensory exploration, group work and shared reading and writing. Mathematics is a key subject where pupils are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need in everyday life. At Norbury, we understand that in order to ensure children are working at their age related expectations, teaching should be about providing depth to consolidate understanding.
We aim to do this by ensuring lessons are taught through practical activity, exploration and discussion.
Furthermore, there is an emphasis on the importance of using correct mathematical language as we understand that children will need this to be able to justify, generalise and explain their reasoning, not only in Maths, however also across other areas in the curriculum. Music is an integral part of Norbury. We have weekly singing assemblies, an active orchestra, Gospel Choir and Monday Morning Choir, as well as woodwind, guitars, violins, and our infamous steel pans.
We are looking to include Tabla, Sitar and Harmonium players in our orchestra, so please let the office know if your child would like to participate. Music Technology is also taking off at Norbury with children composing their own digital music.go to site

At Norbury we support all children to be curious about the world around us. From Nursery to Year 6, children are encouraged to explore, discover and investigate science to find answers to those questions we may ask about our world. Children will study four areas:. Links will be made to other curriculum areas.
Pupils will have the chance to use skills developed in Literacy, Maths and ICT to support their learning in science. Year groups organise trips and for visitors to come to the school to support and enhance the learning of science. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in whole school projects that encourage further engagement of all. Norbury has fantastic sports facilities, including a large hall and two 5 a side pitches, often used for competitions.

Pupils participate in all sports across the curriculum including swimming in key stage two. Sports at Norbury are of a high standard. This can be seen through the outstanding quality of our lessons. This builds our pupils confidence, ability to recognise their own success and evaluate their knowledge of PE.
As a result of this, Norbury are currently borough champions in gymnastics and current London Youth Games medallists. Children have a range of clubs they are invited to participate in.

We encourage as many children to continue their love of PE after school, in well organised and exciting clubs. Our Early Years curriculum is continually evolving to meet the needs of the children. We are currently developing our outdoor area so that children can independently access resources, experience the elements and undertake activities that encourage creative thinking and problem solving. We are in the process of creating our very own Mud Kitchen which the children will have a great time using to create all manner of muddy feasts.
